It is often said that actions speak louder than words.
With record-setting heat that has had fatal results for a growing number of Texans, especially those required to work outside, Abbott recently approved a law that will eliminate city and county ordinances like Austin’s and Dallas’ mandated water breaks.Please help me understand why our illustrious legislators decided to remove local control from communities who want to protect workers’ health and safety against possible exploitation by business owners.
Is it because business owners are certain to have the workers’ best interests at heart and therefore no extra regulation is needed? I work outside every day, so I know how essential water breaks can be for avoiding heat exhaustion. Do we have to wait for someone to die before we intervene?Susan Hull, Bandera. Next, Florida Gov.
