Columnist Rich Lowry may be right that U.S. Rep. Chip Roy was victorious in the debacle that played out on the House floor and in Kevin McCarthy’s selection as speaker of the House. But in the end, Americans lost. Roy is emblematic of today’s Republican Party in that members say they are conservative but then go to the far right. In 2016 while working for Sen. Ted Cruz, Roy criticized Donald Trump. By 2018, Roy changed his views on Trump and praised his job performance.
