Citing the “chaos and incompetence” of Trumpism, one reader has a new appreciation for Mitt Romney, who ran for president in 2012.In 1974, then-Texas Lt. Gov. Bill Hobby was arrested for DWI by the Austin police. The next day, with his wife and his attorney, he went to the courthouse, pleaded no contest and paid a fine.If you are wrong, do the honorable thing and admit your mistake.Ray Martinez, New BraunfelsI concur with the letter.
I’d like to thank the current iteration of the Republican Party for helping me step outside the liberal echo chamber where I normally dwell. In 2012, I was horrified by the possibility of Mitt Romney in the White House, convinced the country might not survive intact. Thankfully, the chaos and incompetence of the Trump presidency and the embarrassing spectacles created by the Republican caucus during the opening weeks of the current Congress have dramatically altered my perspective.
Had Romney run and won the presidency in 2012 , the Biden family might be the only ones worried about Joe’s age today. “Trumpism” might only be a pejorative term for unethical business practices. I would have been sleeping better than when Trump controlled our nukes. Perhaps best of all, I could add red baseball caps back to my wardrobe without fear of being mistaken for someone else.
