During this primary period, candidates tell us about themselves. The debates do little to establish policy differences between them, but they do provide opportunities for candidates to produce sound bites or memes that can and will be used in their later promotions.

Or, as is the case with Matt Mahan, to be buried. While attempting to gain an edge over, and referring to Xavier Becerra, Mahan said: “never met a crisis that he couldn’t ignore. ” Logically, that says whatever he can’t do, I can, which means that Mahan can easily ignore any crisis, no matter how severe. Is the ability to ignore crises the quality you want in your next governor?

Mahan’s problem seems to be that he continues to let words slip past that toothsome smirk. First self-certification; now this. Mahan was never in contention, so now it’s time for him to join Tony Thurmond and both drop out of this race. Following Eric Swalwell’s resignation, the Democratic establishment found a new controllable candidate.

They have chosen Xavier Becerra, who has benefited from Swalwell’s departure. Progressives now oppose conservative Democrat Becerra after he surged in primary polls. Besides political contributions from corporations such as Chevron, Becerra is against a billionaire tax supported by the unions. Latest polling shows Republican Steve Hilton in the lead, Becerra statistically tied, followed by Republican Chad Bianco, Democrat Tom Steyer and Katie Porter.

Just the two Republicans could still make it to the general election. Backing Becerra, it appears that the Democratic establishment would rather lose to a Republican than see a Democratic progressive win. Instead of promoting Becerra, Democrats should strengthen their support for Porter and Steyer to prevent this scenario. Within a few months new regulations will ban the purchase and installation of new gas water heaters and gas furnaces.

Bay Area Air District staff estimate a replacement electric heat pump water heater will cost $3,500 more than a gas water heater and homes built before 1980 will need an upgraded electrical panel for an additional cost between $3,000 to $5,000 not to mention the delays in receiving the required permits and inspections. The good news: District staff estimates a single-family home would save about $20 a month on its energy bill switching from a gas to an electric water heater.

Be grateful it will only take 14 years to recoup your investment with the new water heater, compared to 27 to 30 years if you need an electrical panel upgrade. Or just take cold showers. , 70% place a new library as either a high or medium priority, higher than any other facility, including a public safety building, a senior center or redeveloping the community center.

And looking at just those who make it a high priority, it is more than twice as high as any other.on the primary ballot provides the funding to plan and build a new library, without dipping into the city’s general fund. All of us who love libraries and agree with the strong wish of our neighbors should vote yes on Measure C. A citizen barges into the lobby next to the room where the president is. He’s firing a gun.

Secret Service stops and arrests him. No one is hurt. A citizen steps between an ICE agent and another citizen at a protest. The agents grab him, pin him to the ground, pepper-spray him and shoot 10 bullets into his back.

He’s dead. The name United States of America does not come close to accurately describing the country we live in today. We are a collage of red, blue and purple, each with its own sanctuary cities all acting as stand-alone countries deciding which federal laws they will follow, enforce or ignore. And within each state, the leading political party is working to gerrymander its districts to eliminate competition within the state and, more importantly, to assume permanent control of Congress.

I think the next two or three election cycles will determine the future of our country because as divided as we are today, it’s only going to get worse if we continue placing people in high office simply because they have a ‘D’ or an ‘R’ next to their name or they spend more on commercials or they promise to fight to make life more safe and affordable with no clue how to accomplish it.
