Letter: 'The [LDS Church] made themselves liars by the thousands of words changed, added or deleted by their prophets, leaders and historians over the many, many years as real 'spin doctors.' The Tanners only exposed these changes.'
By Ria van Lent | The Public Forum,” is absolutely offensive and not the correct expression for the 60 years of a lifetime of the studies and dedication of Jerald and Sandra Tanner. In LDS circles they are only known as being “anti-Mormon.” Terrible. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made themselves liars by the thousands of words changed, added or deleted by their prophets, leaders and historians over the many, many years as real “spin doctors.
If there is anything anti-Mormon in what the Tanners published it came from the many books of official church history, publications and teachings by the prophets and church leaders only. Just look at the talk of the April 2020 world conference, how three completely different first vision accounts from different dates were mixed into one powerful fairy tale.
In the days of Mark Hofmann, Jerald Tanner could not accept as truth the so-called original documents which the church leaders paid a lot of money for. Maybe they were compromising! But Jerald required more proof before he could accept or reject those documents. He was the only lay person who requested 100% proof. Jerald was proven right when the truth came out.I don”t think this is your best piece of journalism.
