Letter: I find it so disingenuous the platitudes being voiced by those cheering for the end of a woman’s right to choose an abortion.

Utah’s politicians are seemingly tripping over each other with promises to “adopt policies that support children in foster care systems,” “ensure easy and affordable access to contraception,” “provide robust resources for women with unplanned pregnancies,” “protect the lives of millions of children,” “support expecting mothers,” blah, blah, blah.

Does that mean there will be legislation to guarantee adequate health care, maternity leave, adoption services, let alone easy and low or no-cost access to contraception? And as it’s not just married or partnered women who face unwanted/unintended pregnancies, what about those “boys will be boys” sperm donors?

Will there be legislation to hold them financially accountable for their role in conception, will they be mandated to provide for their progeny that their sexual partner will be forced to carry to term? Perhaps if all those robust resources had been readily available and affordable, including comprehensive sex education, abortion may not have been a choice for many women. But, let’s be clear, outlawing abortion will not end unplanned pregnancies, and it will not end the practice of abortion.

It simply pushes it underground or, for those who have the means, out of state. Hyp, hyp, hypocrisy....
