Through participation in an ancient Kava ceremony, we are seeing the beginning of building a bridge for healing and contemplation in our relationships with the Anchorage leadership chosen to protect our community. It is an emotional and humbling gesture. As a long-time Anchorage resident, I thank the Alaska Samoan Tribal Council members; their CEO, Rev. Sam Unutoa; the Ladies of the Pacific Dance Academy; and the mayor and police chief for coming together to celebrate the importance of “growing a strong and harmonious relationship among governments and the communities they represent.”
