I’m independent. I don’t want my neighborhood run by Blues or Reds, I want to vote for a candidate who represents me. And therein lies the problem with closed primaries — your neighborhood is controlled by gangs. Say you are having movie night with your friends and it’s time to order a pizza. Everyone is arguing about what to get. You each put in a vote and tally the result. First choices like anchovy-broccoli and jalapeño-eggplant are quickly discarded by the group and you vote again. Eventually, you settle on a cheese pizza because, while it may not be exactly what you wanted, it’s something you can live with. That’s ranked choice voting.
