Perhaps we would take them more seriously if we had a Senate that reflected the current political makeup of the whole country.
If our esteemed federal legislators are concerned about maintaining the dignity of the institution and making sure that “we the people” take them seriously, I suggest that rather than worrying about making sure that they all wear 18th century-inspired clothing that many of us could never afford, perhaps they should consider a few more relevant changes.
Maybe they should eliminate the influence of gerrymandering, lobbying, excessive campaign contributions and flat-out corruption on the legislative process. And perhaps we would take them more seriously if we had a Senate that reflected the current political makeup of the whole country.
