New York Attorney General Letitia James has celebrated a 'major victory' against Google after a court found that it maintained an illegal monopoly of online search engines.'This decision is a major victory in our efforts to ensure all companies, no matter how powerful or influential, are held accountable when they harm others,' James said in a statement.

Google is the most popular search engine in the world by far, controlling about 90 percent of the online search market and 95 percent on smartphones.Newsweek has contacted Google via email for comment outside regular working hours.On Monday, Kent Walker, the president of global affairs at Google and its parent company, Alphabet Inc., responded to the decision in a statement to Newsweek.
