Letitia James has dropped out of the New York gubernatorial race, saying, “I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general”
Out of the race. Photo: Scott Heins/Getty Images State Attorney General Letitia James announced on Thursday that she’s suspending her campaign for governor of New York and will instead run for reelection in her current position.
“I have come to the conclusion that I must continue my work as attorney general,” James said in a statement. “There are a number of important investigations and cases that are underway, and I intend to finish the job. I am running for re election to complete the work New Yorkers elected me to do.” James launched her campaign in late October, touting her many years of experience and high-profile lawsuits against the National Rifle Association and Trump’s administration.
But her fundraising numbers have been relatively weak, and a recent Siena College poll showed that Governor Kathy Hochul, running for her first full term, held a commanding lead over James in a Democratic primary.
