Lesotho’s scandal-hit prime minister, Thomas Thabane, has been instructed to resign from his position by the council of state.
His All Basotho Convention’s party spokesperson, Montoeli Masoetsa, also confirmed Thabane’s resignation.
He said his successor, Dr Moeketsi Majoro, was due to be sworn in on Tuesday at 10.30am at the Royal Palace.“I have been informed by the state council to come for the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow,” he said. On Monday, he said he had gone to his followers so that they were not fed incorrect information from social media platforms.
A motion of no confidence was brought against Thabane, but the speaker of parliament dismissed it on the grounds that it was not procedurally launched.
