The Dallas Cowboys are on the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Mike McCarthy. Leslie Frazier, the assistant head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, is among the early candidates and is scheduled for an interview with the Cowboys on Monday. The team is also planning to interview former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh later this week.
The Dallas Cowboys are searching for a new head coach after deciding not to renew Mike McCarthy's contract. Among the early contenders for the position is Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier . NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday, following an initial report from Todd Archer, that Frazier is slated to meet with the Cowboys on Monday. The Cowboys also have plans to interview former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh later this week.
Frazier previously coached the Minnesota Vikings from 2010 (initially as an interim) until 2013, achieving a playoff berth in the 2012 season. Since his stint as an NFL head coach, Frazier has held various coaching roles, including defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills, as well as secondary coach for the Baltimore Ravens. He served as the AHC with the Bills from 2020 until 2022 and assumed the same position under Mike Macdonald in Seattle. The potential hiring of both Saleh and Frazier would immediately fulfill the NFL's Rooney Rule requirement, which mandates interviewing at least two external minority candidates for head coaching vacancies. In the event the Cowboys select Frazier as their head coach, the Seahawks would not be eligible for two third-round compensatory picks. Frazier has only been with the Seahawks for one season, which falls short of the minimum two-season requirement. This is similar to the situation involving Dave Canales, who is of Mexican descent, and did not yield any comp picks for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when he was appointed Carolina Panthers head coach after one season as Buccaneers offensive coordinator
