Vice Capital plans to demolish the buildings and build a three-story facility with about 40 market-rate and affordable housing apartments. Sanders said they hope to break ground next year. Sanders said that part of the reason why they purchased these particular properties was to keep with the tradition of African American businesses along North Sixth Street. He said in addition to the apartments the building will include a co-working space, with a focus on providing space for minority-owned small and medium size businesses, providing desk space and access to a conference room.
The new U.S. Federal Courthouse and the new state archives building are being built nearby on North Sixth Street as well. “It was absolutely one of the reasons that we wanted to invest into that part of Sixth Street,” Sanders said about the other new buildings.
