Matthijs de Ligt was publicly criticised by Netherlands teammate Virgil van Dijk in September's international break, but there are other defensive solutions for Man United.
Numerous Manchester United stars will have returned to their Carrington base over the last few days following September's international break. Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt were among those to depart England - with the quartet encountering very different breaks from domestic action.
Just a few days later, Fernandes netted an equaliser after ex-United player Scott McTominay had given Scotland the lead with another ex-United star in Cristiano Ronaldo grabbing a winner. Zirkzee was also among the goals as he scored and assisted in the Netherlands' 5-2 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.READ MORE: United given positive update by UEFA amid 100,000-seater Old Trafford plan

Lisandro Martinez has also suffered his fair share of injuries since signing for United from Ajax but, when fit, he's arguably proven himself to be United's best centre-back. With that in mind, it's probable United are planning for Martinez and Yoro to be their first-choice partnership in the longer-term.
