Lego and Nintendo have teamed up to create a new set that celebrates the classic Super Mario World game. The set features a pixelated recreation of Mario and Yoshi, with moving mechanisms that bring the characters to life.
Lego has unveiled its latest collaboration with Nintendo at San Diego Comic-Con : a pixelated recreation of Mario and Yoshi from the 16-bit Super Nintendo classic, Super Mario World . Similar to Lego ’s Art sets, this creation is a 2D masterpiece designed for display. However, it also incorporates hidden moving mechanisms, bringing Yoshi to life. The 1,215-piece set towers over 15 inches tall when assembled, showcasing a yellow-caped Mario perched atop Yoshi on a lush, grass-covered hill.
The front of the set, crafted from Lego tiles, offers a remarkably accurate recreation of the 16-bit sprites featured in Super Mario World. But upon turning the set around, the reason behind Lego's emphasis on display becomes evident. Lego's designers ingeniously integrated a pair of mechanisms to reimagine the game's sprite animations. Turning a crank attached to the base sets Yoshi's legs into motion, creating an endless running loop. A conveniently located knob on the back opens Yoshi's mouth, causing his vibrant red tongue to playfully pop in and out. The Lego Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi set is now available for pre-order through Lego’s online store for $129.99. It is scheduled to ship on October 1st. This marks the fifth adult-oriented set released as part of Lego and Nintendo's flourishing collaborative partnership. It joins the ranks of the 2,646-piece NES console, the 2,807-piece Mighty Bowser, the 540-piece Piranha Plant, and the 2,064-piece transforming question mark block.
