Lego teams up with FIFA to release a full-size Lego brick version of the World Cup trophy. Details on the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including the format change to 104 matches and host cities, are also announced.

Lego has unveiled a full-size replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy, constructed from 2,842 Lego bricks. This announcement, made in partnership with FIFA on Wednesday, marks the launch of the classic Danish toy brand's inaugural World Cup range, slated for release next year. The Lego rendition mirrors the trophy first presented at the 1974 World Cup, maintaining the exact height of 36.8 centimeters, equivalent to 14 ½ inches.

While the original trophy, safeguarded by FIFA in Zurich, is crafted from 18-carat solid gold and green malachite and weighs a substantial 6.175 kilograms (13.6 pounds), the Lego version offers a more accessible and playful alternative. Priced at $200, the Lego trophy will be available for purchase starting in March, and will include a hidden scene which can be opened via a pullable slip in the upper globe section, according to a statement released by Lego. This exciting collaboration brings together the iconic game of soccer with the joy of building with Lego bricks, appealing to both sports enthusiasts and Lego fans alike.\The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is set to kick off on June 11. The United States national team's inaugural match will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on June 12, followed by a game at Lumen Field in Seattle a week later. The team will return to California to conclude the group stage at SoFi on June 25. The tournament's third-place match will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Furthermore, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, although missing out on hosting the final, will stage nine matches, surpassing any other venue. One of the semi-final matches will also be held in Arlington, with the other semi-final scheduled to take place at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The grand final of the 2026 World Cup is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The tournament, spanning 39 days, will see a significant alteration in its group stage format, shifting from 16 groups of three teams to 12 groups of four teams. This change will result in a total of 104 matches, significantly more than the 64 matches in the 2022 tournament held in Qatar. To secure the World Cup title, a national team will need to participate in eight matches, a change from the seven games required since 1974.\The expanded format of the 2026 World Cup will see the top two teams from each group, along with the top eight third-place teams, advancing to a new round of 32, which will begin the knockout phase. This marks a shift from the 1998 tournament, where advancement for third-place teams was eliminated when the tournament expanded from 24 to 32 teams. This expansion, leading to more matches, is expected to generate increased revenue for FIFA through television broadcasting rights and ticket sales. FOX will be the broadcaster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The United States will host matches in various locations, including Arlington, Texas; Atlanta; East Rutherford, New Jersey; Foxborough, Massachusetts; Houston; Inglewood, California; Kansas City, Missouri; Miami Gardens, Florida; Philadelphia; Seattle; and San Jose, California. This wide geographical spread demonstrates the widespread excitement and anticipation for the tournament across the United States. The introduction of the Lego trophy further enhances the excitement, offering fans a unique opportunity to celebrate the prestigious sporting event through the iconic toy, bridging the gap between physical play and the global passion for soccer. The initiative showcases the global reach of both the sport and the Lego brand
