A critical push by local leaders to make breast cancer screenings more accessible.
Rep. Joe Morelle partnered with the Breast Cancer Coalition to announce the Find it Early Act, Monday, Sept. 16, 2024, which would ensure all health insurance plans cover screening and diagnostic mammograms , breast ultrasounds, and MRIs with no cost sharing. cover screening and diagnostic mammograms , breast ultrasounds, and MRIs with no cost sharing.
This follows the FDA ruling that all mammography reports and result letters sent to patients are required to have an assessment of breast density. Higher amounts of breast density can make a woman more likely to develop breast cancer and make it more difficult to detect the presence of cancer on a mammogram. For women with higher breast density or a family history of breast cancer, follow-up screenings are required.
"We're pleased to see that this legislation is focused on improving equity and access so all individuals can benefit from these screenings," said Christina Thompson, executive director of Breast Cancer Coalition. "It's a step closer to greater health equity for all."
