Dickie Davies, who anchored World of Sport from 1968 until 1985, died today at 94
TV sports presenter Dickie Davies has died at the age of 94. Tributes have poured in from the sporting world on behalf of the broadcaster, known best for his stint on World of Sport, after he passed away on Sunday, February 19.
The Mirror reports that Davies, from Cheshire, also went on to work for Eurosport before suffering a stroke in 1995. He recovered and then fronted his own shown, Dickie Davies' Sporting Heroes. Meanwhile, Sky Sports football reporter Gary Taphouse said: "RIP Dickie Davies. What a professional. So many wonderful memories watching World Of Sport as a youngster."
After the programme finished in 1985, the anchorman remained with ITV and presented snooker, boxing, wrestling and darts. he also played a key role in their coverage of the 1988 Seoul Olympics. But it was his association with wrestling which he became most famed for, despite the presenter admitting in later years that he was never its greatest supporter.
