Legendary Arkansas activist and member of the Little Rock Nine, Thelma Mothershed-Wair, has sadly passed away at the age of 83.
Thelma Mothershed-Wair and the rest of the Little Rock Nine was responsible for the desegregation of the Little Rock Central High School, as they became the first African American students to enter the establishment.The Little Rock School District released a statement regarding the death of Thelma Mothershed-Wair:
Little Rock Central High National Historic Site released the following statement about the former historical student:"While we mourn the transition of Thelma Mothershed Wair, we also pay tribute to her lasting legacy, seen in generations of Americans empowered by her courage and perseverance. She and fellow members of the Little Rock 9 set us on a better path that altered the course of history in our City and nation forever.
