The turbulent weather didn't seem to deter visitors from the wharf, or even surfers from the rough waters underneath it.

"We had massive swells that were crashing under the pier. Windows were getting splashed; it was a pretty intense situation," Florez said.about 5 p.m. Thursday that the wharf had been closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for an hour, and that city workers would determine when it was safe to reopen after assessing the situation.
"It was super busy yesterday. The ocean was still really rough, and there were lots of big waves yesterday still," Pech said."Today, there's still a little bit of a swirl, but nothing like yesterday or the day before. It's really much calmer."
