The late Big Bob Gibson is credited with inventing Alabama white sauce.
Updated: Nov. 04, 2024, 12:47 p.m.Four generations of the Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q family from Decatur, Ala., attended the induction of the late Alabama pitmaster Robert Lee "Big Bob" Gibson into the American Royal Barbecue Hall of Fame in Kansas City.Four generations of Alabama’s legendary Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q family made the 10-hour trek from Decatur to Kansas City this weekend to celebrate the late Big Bob Gibson ’s induction into the national American Royal Barbecue Hall of Fame.
“We were able to get up on stage and talk with the rest of the hall of fame inductees and all of the current hall of fame members and tell them a little about our family and our history,” Lilly said. “And we were able to bring all of the generations up onstage and talk about the history of Big Bob Gibson in Decatur, Alabama.”
Gibson got so good at smoking meat that he eventually quit the railroad and went into the barbecue business, opening the original Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q in Decatur in 1925.“Alabama white sauce,”
