Leeds United are hoping to add a new right-back this summer and have identified Djed Spence as an option
Tottenham Hotspur's decision that they will not take a big loss on Djed Spence has opened the door for Leeds United to take the player on loan this season. Spurs signed Spence in a high-profile move last summer, beating Nottingham Forest to the player's signature after agreeing a £20m deal with Middlesbrough.
While there has been interest both home and abroad for Spence, no club has come close to matching the type of figure Spurs want for a player who they made a big outlay on just 12 months ago. It means a season-long loan deal is now most likely, with Spurs hoping Spence impresses enough to drive his transfer fee up next summer.
Leeds are understood to be in the driving seat regarding a loan deal, which could cost the club around £2m for the season. That fee would be made up a direct loan fee paid to Spurs, plus the player's wages paid in full, thought to be around £25,000 a week. It's an expensive loan deal for Leeds, but a signing that requires far less outlay than buying the player now, just one year into his five-year deal.
