Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has explored his options in defence with midfielder Archie Gray showing his utility value
Football has always reinvented itself as new trends, formations and styles of play emerge. The old 4-4-2 is now pretty much consigned to the history books, with over-lapping full-backs, one up top and a rise in prominence of the number 10 role in recent years underling the recent changes to the game.
Being adept at a number of positions can be key for players in providing managers with new options, and to that Leeds United supporters need look no further than Archie Gray. Looking every bit a midfield player of some stature for his young age, Gray is now finding himself used in the right-back position by Whites boss Daniel Farke. It's not about plugging holes, but adaptability as the young player continues his emergence in the Championship.
“We see that so often in the Premier League, we see with Rico Lewis, John Stones, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and I think there’s an element that the manager thinks at that right-back position, Gray can do that. He’s a clever enough footballer to do it."
