Leeds United are in the hunt for automatic promotion with just two games to go and Leeds Live has taken a look at how Daniel Farke's experience can help in the final week of the season as the 49ers look to get back to the Premier League
Patrick Vieira and Scott Parker were among the names in the frame. However, those senior figures at Leeds United who interviewed Daniel Farke for the manager's job last summer referenced the German's 'quiet confidence' following his previous Championship title wins with Norwich City. That inner belief has certainly been needed during one of the most hotly-contested promotion races in years.
That sense of calm has certainly been needed throughout the campaign in what is a wonderfully emotional one-club city. Farke, for instance, knew not to get too concerned when Leeds were nine points off second place on New Year's Day. By the same token, the Leeds boss will not be getting carried away now that his side are in the automatic promotion places with only two games to go. Just ask former Norwich first-team coach Christian Fluthmann.
"In his match day speeches or before a training session, when he mentioned the crunch time, we all knew what that meant," the former midfielder told Leeds Live. "We all knew what had to be done so there was no panic from any of us when he mentioned it. These title winners have come together again to build this particular promotion bid on some familiar cornerstones - turning the home stadium into a fortress; playing without fear away; fostering a spirit and togetherness internally and, indeed, externally with the supporters - and the players have bought into it. They have long seen the value of Farke's intense training sessions and lengthy analysis meetings. Zimmermann knows those better than most.
You can see why Farke, in the words of Tettey, takes his training sessions 'super seriously' - even to the point where it was 'almost more serious than the actual game'. Farke may be a calm figure in front of the cameras, but this is a man who has another side, who 'hates conceding goals' and who won't tolerate players 'trying to pull the strings' behind the scenes as Zimmermann remembered.
