Leeds United's decision makers could already have one eye on the January transfer window after their summer challenges
After a summer of twists, turns and uncertainty, Daniel Farke finally knows how his Leeds United squad will look for the first half of the Championship season. The new owners, 49ers Enterprises, weren't in a position to plan ahead moving into the summer and left it late to complete their business with five of Leeds' nine summer signings coming in the last eight days of the window.
However, a clear option never presented itself and that looks set to leave Farke experimenting with a few makeshift options. The German has already asked Joel Piroe, Ian Poveda, Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville to play the role this season and he does have attacking options. A left-back Another transfer window has come and gone without Leeds signing a natural left-back and although Farke will be somewhat content with his options, it continues to be an area of concern for the Whites. Leeds did sign up Sam Byram on a free transfer this summer and it’s fair to assume that when he’s fit, he starts at left-back.
Junior Firpo is still around but there are question marks about his injury record and suitability after a difficult couple of years at Elland Road, while Leo Hjelde has visibly struggled under Farke this season. It means that a specialist left-back could likely feature on the manager’s list of priorities heading into the window.
As such, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Leeds targeting one or two low-profile but promising individuals with an eye to the future.
