The Rhinos' past recruitment has received plenty of criticism.

Sky Sports pundit Jon Wells has taken aim at Leeds Rhinos' long-term recruitment flaws as their ongoing battle to return to power continues to falter. The Rhinos lost 50-0 on Saturday, their biggest home defeat of the Super League era.

Those views are shared by Wells, who admitted to being left surprised by many of their decisions in recent years. Speaking on Sky Sports, Wells, who was in charge of Castleford Tigers' recruitment between 2018 and 2021, said: "Some of the signings have not just left me open-mouthed but left a lot of the South Standers open-mouthed and underwhelmed."If you look at the like of Rhys Evans who comes in.

"There's another element to this that revolves around this which is salary cap management. Leeds Rhinos historically, were very famous for sticking to pay bands, when the wheels started to come off after 2017 they broke that, they brought in Trent Merrin and Konrad Hurrell on big, big money. Zane Tetevano, Luke Gale, including a transfer fee, and blew that pay structure wide open.
