A 53-year-old woman has been jailed for eight years after her young sons drowned in the Ross River in north Queensland in 2019.A mother found guilty of manslaughter over the drowning deaths of her two "defenceless and vulnerable" young sons has been sentenced to eight years' jail.

Jhulio Sariago, three, and Barak Austral, five, were seen playing unsupervised near the river on the day of their death, just 200 metres from their home.In his sentencing submission, prosecutor David Nardone said it had taken one hour and 19 minutes before Eatts noticed her two youngest sons were missing.Eatts had failed to see the boys leaving the unsecured backyard.

He rejected any suggestion from Eatts that the boys' death was a terrible accident, describing the boys as defenceless and vulnerable.
