The problem with telling a veteran player that he looks like his younger self is he can take it two different ways. On the positive, he can appreciate the fact you’re recognizing his excellent play of late and take it for what it is. But some guys will also take it as a backhanded compliment, reading into it that what you’re really saying is that he hasn’t been as good the past few years.
“I mean, there’s a bunch of guys that I’ve played with that would tell me exactly how it is and say the same sort of thing, but I’ve got a great relationship with Muzz,” Doughty said. “We’re always super honest with each other, it doesn’t matter if we don’t want to hear it or whatever. “I always want to hear things, even if I’m offended by it or whatever it is; I still want to hear it. Just tell me the truth. Tell me what you think.
