Dumont, who broke his silence on Sunday regarding the major deal, defended the move while taking some pointed shots at his former star player.
He claimed Dončić lacked the same work ethic as legendary players like Jordan, Bird, Kobe, and Shaq, stating, 'If you look at the greats in the league, the people you and I grew up with — Jordan, Bird, Kobe , Shaq — they worked really hard, every day, with a singular focus to win,' he said. 'And if you don't have that, it doesn't work. And if you don't have that, you shouldn't be part of the Dallas Mavericks.' Dumont went on to emphasize the Mavericks' desire for players dedicated to the team's culture and success. 'That's who we want. I'm unwavering on this. The entire organization knows this. This is how I operate outside of basketball. This is the only way to be competitive and win. If you want to take a vacation, don't do it with us.'James, known for his unwavering work ethic and outspoken nature, didn't hesitate to respond to Dumont's comments. Through a post on his Instagram account, James seemingly defended Dončić and the Lakers' decision to acquire him.
