Jessica Carter Altman always thought of herself as clumsy. “I have always been a very clumsy person. I trip over everything,” says the singer-songwriter. “My husband says that I knock everything over almost all the time.”

Altman has been in love with singing and performing since she was little. “I joined my first chorus in the first grade and did show choir and my brother and I used to make up musicals,” she says. “I was always playing the villain.”UFC Cuts 8 Fighters, Including Top-10 Ranked Contender Altman, who graduated from University of Michigan Law School and had a thriving career as an attorney working at a Washington DC law firm, took a major career leap. She left law to pursue music full-time. Although music and being an artist was always her passion, she hesitated at first. “My head prevailed,” says Altman. “I told myself it was a silly dream and I had to take a more practical path and go to law school.

To have that permission to essentially fail was everything for Altman. “That's why people don't go for their dreams,” she says. “They are afraid of being judged or having someone say, ‘I can't believe she thinks she can be a singer.’”
