A pickup truck driver was caught on camera causing damage to Leavenworth's Front Street Park by performing donuts on the lawn. Authorities are investigating the incident and plan to press charges against the driver.
A pickup driver was caught on camera doing donuts in the park where Leavenworth holds all its events. The lawn area of Front Street Park in the popular 'Bavarian Village' of Leavenworth was temporarily closed after a Texas resident Zachary Soltis was identified as the driver. The Chelan County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said it has probable cause to arrest Soltis for second-degree malicious mischief and reckless driving .
'We are currently working with the Chelan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to file charges against Mr. Soltis and ensure we remain an 'adversary' to those who would come to this County and commit crime,' the CCSO said in a news release. 'We will rise above it. We are Christmas Town USA, and we take pride in what we offer people,' said Leavenworth Mayor Carl Florea. 'It is disappointing. This is an iconic hill. It is known all over the place.' In the video, the driver first appears to just be turning around, sliding in the process. But shortly after, the truck begins to race around the slippery lawn area. City officials later posted a photo of the aftermath: a muddy mess with clearly visible tire tracks, leaving the park unusable. 'It is really disturbing considering Leavenworth opens this place up for everyone from all over and that is how it gets treated it is really unfortunate,' Laura Turner said. 'Honestly it made me really upset as a local because we deal with the traffic and then to have that happen is disrespectful.
