The schools training Australia’s next generation of artistic talent including some notable Oscar winners are experiencing a historic funding shortfall.
Eight national drama, dance, and music schools have appealed for the restoration of Federal funding to levels they were ten years ago.
Pre Oscars, a high-level delegation, led by actors Sigrid Thornton and Remy Hii, have lobbied MPs for greater long-term Federal government funding security, warning without sustainable funding course fees may need to rise.Eight leading creative arts schools responsible for training the nation’s prima ballerinas and Oscar-winning actors and directors are facing a financial crunch that threatens Australia’s reputation as a hothouse of creative talent.
The group is seeking restoration of funding to 2014 levels for funding of capital improvements to their ageing facilities. “They absolutely need funding,” she said. “In the 2022-23 budget, we made stopgap commitments to get them through tough times while the government undertook a review.
