The leaders vying to become premier at the upcoming New South Wales state election have engaged in a heated debate less than two weeks before voters head to the polls on March 25. 9News
9News' Peter Overton hosted the debate which allowed the panel - 9News state political reporter Liz Daniels, 2GB drive host Chris O'Keefe and Alexandra Smith,READ MORE:O'Keefe and Smith called the debate a draw between the two leaders.
Both leaders took the opportunity to spruik their cost of living policies like the Liberals' vouchers and Labor slashing first home buyer taxes.READ MORE:O'Keefe asked Minns whether Labor had sufficient policies to reduce grocery prices.The Labor government has offered toll subsidies to truck drivers on the M5 and M8 but O'Keefe questioned whether all the other motorways in NSW would be included.
Minns was asked if essential workers like teachers, nurses and police would earn more under his government. He said to pay for all of the Liberals' infrastructure promises, it would be paid off by raising the state's debt or selling off assets like Sydney Water or Essential Energy.Perrottet has refused to concede any of the party's promises would unduly impact the state's budget position.
Perrottet said the fund was only available for children born in NSW or who have one parent who is a citizen in NSW.Minns said his major objection to the future fund is the "long-term interest" of NSW residents and the debt.Minns said instead the Labor Party would focus on the education system.Forty per cent of the coalition's candidates are women compared to 48 per cent of Labor's.
"I needed to take people with me on the journey, not just say, 'Here is where we're going', but instead work with them to bring them along," he said.
