Sat, March 2nd 2024 at 9:18 PMLAYTON, Utah —According to Lt. Travis Lyman with the Layton Police Department, the incident was reported a short time before 2 p.m. on Friday when a school administrator received a tip that a student had brought a gun to school in his backpack.
Following protocol, the administrator pulled the student, who was in the 10th-grade, along with his backpack out of class."While in the office, the student’s backpack was inspected – where a gun was recovered," Lyman said. Authorities clarified that there were no threats made to students or staff, and the student did not intend to use the gun. Instead, he reportedly showed it to other students.
The student faces two class A misdemeanors and was transported to juvenile detention pending further investigation.
