Thirteen people who suffered serious injuries in an explosion at an Oakwood recycling plant last year have sued two companies, alleging the businesses’ failures on a cooling system led to the blast.

A large explosion at the I. Schumann & Co. in Oakwood knocked an entire wall of the building down and launched pieces of the building several hundred feet away, injuring people and damaging cars and property.CLEVELAND, Ohio – Thirteen people who suffered serious injuries in an explosion at an Oakwood recycling plant last year have sued two companies, alleging the businesses’ failures led to the blast.

The incident left extensive damage inside I. Schumann’s Alexander Road building southeast of Cleveland and sent pieces of the building flying several hundred feet away. Sixty firefighters responded from 14 departments. I. Schumann buys scrap metals, which it processes into alloys that it sells to customers in the metal foundry industry, according to the filing. In order to heat the metals at such extreme temperatures, a water-cooling tower exists.second barrier. Water is pumped in and out of the jacketsl to regulate temperature.
