The Hearts striker wasn't hiding from the truth as he opened up on a campaign that fell short of expectations
They travelled to Germany carrying the hopes of a nation that we were about to witness history on the big stage. But within 10 days of Scotland ’s Euro 2024 campaign getting off to the worst possible start the players were left - like the rest of us - watching the remainder of the tournament on TV.
Shankland said: “It is still pretty raw. It was difficult when we still had the rest of the tournament to watch. But the analysis will be done and I'm sure we will talk about it when we get together. When you get the experience of the games and the feeling of coming out even for the warm ups with the crowd behind you, it’s incredible.
Asked is he would have wanted more minutes, Shankland said: “Of course, as would everybody who was starting on the bench for the games. That's the nature of football. I’ve always said no matter what role you are asked to play for the national team, you go and you do it.
