Lawmakers, parents and student march in Brooklyn to demand permanent housing provided to homeless students

from both the activist group Advocates for Children of New York , as well as the Department of Education’s own recently released figures, indicate that approximately 104,000 NYC Public School students don’t have permanent homes.

This alarming news translates to a 3.3% increase in homelessness in student populations from last year, which recorded about 101,000 students experiencing homelessness.and their children who are entering the NYC public school system, advocates said Thursday. Advocates have called upon Governor Kathy Hochul as well as NYC Mayor Eric Adams and other City and State officials to intervene and provide permanent and safe housing for unhoused students.
