Law & Order: Organized Crime stars Chris Meloni and Dylan McDermott reunite in a hilarious photo ahead of the show's winter premiere on NBC. Law & Order: Organized Crime is the seventh series in the Law & Order franchise created by Dick Wolf. The series is a spinoff of the long-running Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, on which Meloni starred in across seasons 1 to 12.
Law & Order: Organized Crime follows Meloni's Detective Elliot Stabler, who joins the New York City organized crime department to find answers regarding the mystery of who murdered his wife. McDermott plays Richard Wheatley, a crime boss and suspect in Stabler's wife's murder case. Law & Order: Organized Crime has seen crossovers with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, with Meloni and McDermott reprising their roles on the parent series.
Law & Order is one of the most long-running and beloved franchises on television, with over 1,200 episodes from eight mainline series. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit alone has aired over 500 episodes over 23 seasons. Meloni unexpectedly departed Law & Order: Special Victims Unit after season 12 due to failed contract negotiations. However, his return in Law & Order: Organized Crime speaks to good terms between him and the network.
Along with CSI on CBS, Law & Order represents a sort of comfort food in television culture, where the episode-by-episode plot is the same each week, and the villain always confesses in the end. With so many episodes in its catalog, Law & Order shows no sign of changing its ways, and the built-in fans of the franchise aren't going anywhere.
