The Gators, state finalists last season in Division II, finish their season 14-14.
ELYRIA, Ohio — Bellevue’s defense shut down Laurel late in Saturday’s Division IV state semifinals at Elyria Catholic High School, allowing the Lady Red to claim a 46-40 victory over the Gators for their first state final appearance in school history.
Gators head coach Terrina Robinson declined to comment after the game and did not make players available for comment. “We’ve got a saying, we want three stops in a row seven times a game,” Santoro said. “I didn’t think we did a very good job in the first half. Give us one stretch where we get three stops in a row and we score, we’re gonna win the game and that’s what we did. That’s exactly what happened towards the end of the game and we won the game at the free throw line.”
Williams finished with a team-high 15 points, but scored only three points in the second half. She was the Northeast Lake District Player of the Year in Division IV this season, averaging 21.9 points, 8.4 rebounds and three steals per game.
