The U.S. Census Bureau said it undercounted Black, Latino and Native American residents in its 2020 national population count.
Black people were undercounted at a rate of 3.3% -- an increase from 2.06% in the 2010 census. For Native Americans living on reservations, they were missed at a rate of 5.64% compared to 1.34% in 2010.It's important for the bureau to accurately measure how many people are living in the United States; the census determines federal funding and political representation.
The data from the 2020 Post-Enumeration Survey Estimation Report, which captured the coverage errors, is intended to be used to improve future censuses.
