Latinas for Kamala SA inspired two songs for the Democratic presidential candidate. They, and Los Kamaladas, are just getting started.
It was Jan. 20, 1961, and María Antonietta Berriozábal’s boss at the Salvation Army didn’t agree with her pick for president. But he knew how important watching his inauguration was to her. So, he set up a little black-and-white TV in the break room, and she listened to John F. Kennedy challenge a nation to ask not what their country could do for them — but to ask themselves what they could do for their country. It inspired her.

If successful, Harris would be the first woman to hold that office, the first Black woman, the first South Asian. She’s a daughter of immigrants.
Latinas for Kamala groups rise up in San Antonio UTSA professor emerita Ellen Riojas Clark is leading that effort. Its first contribution came almost immediately, inspiring the production of two songs in San Antonio by Shelly Lares’ ShellShock Records 3. The Spanish-language “Kamala” and the English-language women’s anthem “She’s a Trailblazer” will be available for download Friday on all platforms. The first already is floating around on social media.
