It may not arrive until 2025, but details on Samsung ’s next flagship are coming out, and the early notes on the Galaxy S25 Ultra will disappoint the community. Two expected upgrades are for the system-on-chip and the main camera. The former will see Samsung use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Gen 4. While this has yet to be officially announced, given Qualcomm’s upgrade cycle, it’s a racing certainty that this chipset will be available for smartphones released from December 2024 onwards.
There’s no word if Samsung will have any exclusivity on an uprated chipset—Galaxy S24 Ultra consumers had the option to purchase a model using Qualcomm;s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy, so I would not be surprised if a similar period of exclusivity is offered for the S25 Ultra. The ultra-telephoto lens will offer two magnification levels, a regular x3 and a periscope-lens enabled x5.
The disappointment comes with the power options. The battery is listed as 5,000 mAh, the same size as the S24 Ultra. When competing handsets continue to increase battery capacity the Ultra brand is already looking weak. To have this continue into 2025 does not portray a cutting-edge flagship. Also being carried over from the S24 Ultra specifications is the 45W fast charging rate. While this will be better than the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro’s upgrade to 40W, it pales in comparison to the other Android handsets offering charging rates of 100W or more.
