Actress Busi Lurayi has been nominated for the South African Film & Television Awards (Saftas) - just four days after her passing
Lurayi, who won her first Safta for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Comedy in 2006, is nominated in the Best Actress category, alongside Ashley De Lange, Shamilla Miller, Julia Anastasopoulos and Ilse-Lee Van Nierkerk.Lurayi passed away at her home on Sunday.
In a statement released on Monday, the family said the cause of her death was unknown and they were waiting for an autopsy report. Details of her funeral are yet to be released. After taking a break from mainstream shows following her popular breakaway role on SABC 1’s comedy City Sesla in 2006, Lurayi made a comeback with her portrayal of a free-spirited, funny, quirky and troublesome Tumi Sello on Netflix’s How to Ruin Christmas. After playing the lead role for two seasons, Lurayi left the show as she was reportedly on the set of etv’s soapie Scandal!How to Ruin Christmas has been nominated for eight awards.
The SABC group received six nods for Skeem Saam, three for 7 de Laan and the documentary, which aired on S3, Murder in Paris, received four nominations while Giyani: Land of Blood received two nominations, to name a few.
