Escape the holiday frenzy with a unique lineup of events in Boston, from an anti-capitalist, pro-queer holiday show to a queer comedic musical performance.
It’s the final push before the holidays. If you’re like me, that means frantically finishing work projects, scouring the internet for last-minute gifts and prepping for family gatherings. It can be overwhelming to say the least. Attending concerts, art galleries and performances has always been my escape. For those looking for reprieve, there are many exciting events closing out the year in the city, from an anti-holiday show to a queer comedy performance.
If you’re more Scrooge than Santa, check out Erin McKeown’s anti-holiday show at Club Passim. McKeown is a folk musician, writer and producer. They have released 10 albums and co-wrote the celebrated off-Broadway musical “Miss You Like Hell.” This performance is marketed as “the world’s first anti-capitalist, pro-queer, suspicious of Christmas-as-patriotism, sex-positive, not safe for work, multi-ethnic, radical leftist Anti-Holiday show.” McKeown will perform original tracks from anti-Christmas past “” (2024). And they will invite audience members to join their Cranky Carolers choir. Tickets are $30 for non-members and $28 for members.Artists Iwalani Kaluhiokalani and Lani Asunción will perform “Resonant Currents” — an exploration of the physical and symbolic force of water — at Kingston Gallery. The performance utilizes sound, video and wearable art to dive into the power of water through climate change. The performance will be presented in conjunction with “,” which runs through Dec. 29. The exhibition delves into the concept of Mother Sea where the ocean is a life force. The performance is free to attend.co-host Dominick Pupa will put on a comedic and musical performance about this past year at Club Cafe. Pupa has previously performed on “The View,” “Tyra” and “Ricki Lake” and appears on the reality TV show “Theresa Caputo: Raising Spirits.” His performance in Boston’s Moonshine Room will get into the chaos of 2024 while serving drama and flair.
