SAISD's board is set to vote Monday on 15 school closures, one relocation and three mergers.

San Antonio Independent School District trustees may approve the largest slate of school closures in the district's history Monday, but not without a fight from parents. The plan is to shutter 11 elementary schools and four early childhood centers. The item that trustees will vote on also includes three mergers and a newly proposed co-location of a Montessori school with an elementary, which caught parents by surprise when the updated 'rightsizing' plan was publicly released Friday.

She's skeptical that the district, which bills itself as a community familia, will be able to give preferential treatment to all the students displaced by proposed closures when enrolling them at other schools. “The district says we’re going to get the VIP treatment,' she said. 'But how do you give VIP treatment to 5,000 other students?” Paul Farias, a food service worker at Pershing Elementary, said he and others will thank the board Monday for keeping the school open.
