Private islands, flying cars, and psychedelic parties: Inside the wild post-Google lives of Larry Page and Sergey Brin

it had installed 483 solar panels and Tesla power packs, following a large investment by the leaseholding company Page partly owns. He once considered using Kittyhawk's flying cars to taxi people between Caribbean islands, and sent a team of employees to Eustatia to test the company's prototypes in salt water, according to two people familiar with the effort. Employees at Kittyhawk joked that"Larry just wanted a flying car to get from his yacht to his private island.

According to an associate of Page and Brin, it's no surprise that Page had a backup option when Kittyhawk fell through."It's something Larry and Sergey do," they said."They look at things that are similar, fund a whole bunch of them, and see which rises to the top." While Page works to shun the spotlight, Brin maintains a bustling social calendar and has drawn the attention of tabloids for his pending divorce from his wife, Nicole Shanahan.Like Page, Brin has focused on building the next generation of airships. In 2014, after years of interest in the field and investment in at least one smaller startup, he decided to spin up his own initiative, known as Lighter Than Air Research.

According to corporate filings, Brin spends around 2 hours a week working on issues related to his foundation; Page, meanwhile, spends 15 minutes. Though Brin has remained involved in his business ventures, one area he doesn't seem to care much about — to the frustration of some of those who have worked for him — is Bayshore's financial portfolio.
