Greatest impacts will be through Western Alaska and into the Brooks Range
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A rather large area of low pressure near Russia is leading to weather impacts all across the state. Numerous weather alerts are in effect for the state, with coastal flooding for areas out west. While impacts won’t be as great through Southcentral, some areas of the Susitna Valley could see snow, with heavier snow likely through parts of the Interior . Greatest impacts will be felt today through Tuesday for much of the state.
It is possible that if cold air holds in some parts of the valley, we could see areas of wintry mix as far south as Wasilla and Palmer, while that doesn’t look likely, there is still a slight chance we could see a mix into the evening. Juneau woke up this morning to a record low, with many locations across Southeast seeing temperatures in the 20s. We’ll soak up plenty of sunshine today, with rain and snow set to return as we welcome in your Tuesday. Waves of rain will remain with the panhandle beyond Tuesday, with daily highs staying in the 40s and overnight lows dropping near or just above freezing for many areas.
Western Alaska is where some of the greatest impacts will be felt today. All of Western Alaska remains under a coastal flood advisory, where water levels at their highest, could be 4 to 8 feet above high tide. This combined with strong winds will also lead to the potential for flooding along the Kuskokwim River. Like experienced back in August, strong southwesterly winds could back up the river. Be prepared for some flooding for low-lying areas of the Kuskokwim River near Napakiak.
