A pod of 16 orcas have been spotted roaming in Plettenberg Bay. Boat tour agency Ocean Safaris captured the moment during their early morning trip:

Posting a video on Facebook, the company noted: “What an amazing sighting as it is one of the biggest pods roaming our beautiful coastline. We’ve seen the orcas on four occasions for 2023 so far, which is the most for us so far.”

Orcas have to date been a rare sight in Plettenberg Bay, with only about five sightings each year, as reported byWhale presence in the area is typically between mid-May and February, while the southern right whales appear between June and November. As per, avid whale watchers can enjoy year-round sightings of the resident Bryde’s whales and pods of bottlenose dolphins.
