Robocalls from the Republican National Convention recorded by Lara Trump and Donald Trump Jr. encouraged Californians to vote for Mike Garcia in a special election in May for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, according toNATIONAL HARBOR, MD - FEBRUARY 28: Donald Trump Jr., son of President Donald Trump, speaks on stageduring the Conservative Political Action Conference 2020 hosted by the American Conservative Union on February 28, 2020 in National Harbor, MD.

"Nancy Pelosi and liberal Democrats are counting on you to sit on the sidelines this election, but you can prove them wrong," said Lara Trump, the president's daughter-in-law, in the robocall."You can safely and securely vote for Mike Garcia by returning your mail in ballot by May 12." In another call, Trump's son Don Jr. said,"Don't let us down, remember to return your ballot now. Make your vote count for Republican Mike Garcia and get it in the mail by Tuesday, May 12."

Trump, who has voted by mail, has claimed since the start of the pandemic that mail-in voting would lead to fraud, accusing Democrats of the California special election because the state added an additional in-person polling location, making for 13 out of a typical 1,000 opened locations.

The Only Dead People Donald Trump Even Pretends to Care About Are StatuesThe Only Dead People Donald Trump Even Pretends to Care About Are StatuesI have long been of the opinion that all statues of humans (with only two possible exceptions) are bad—either they’re a hagiographic paean to extremely bad men (or more rarely, bad women!) or hideous, or often both. Now the movement has spread beyond Confederate statues, to include Christopher Columbus, Junipero Serra, and others whose legacy is inseparable from racist violence. Even some of the white descendants of Thomas Jefferson don’t want a monument to their ancestor up on the National Mall anymore, preferring instead to replace Jefferson with a statue of Harriet Tubman.
